Owls Girls Basketball Falls in Section 6A Final - Excellent ballgame Ends with Ada-Borup Winning 60-50

The Hancock Owls girls basketball team finishes another sparkling season on the hardwood with a final record of 22-5.

Seniors Chelsea Voorhees and Jenny Noordmans both put in outstanding performances for their final game of their prep careers. A host of Owls' underclassmen played great as well, although Ada-Borup had a bit more "juice" in their tank that put them over the top in a very exciting ballgame.

With a incredibly strong nucleus returning for the 2008-2009 season, the future definitely looks bright for Hancock girls basketball.

See you next season!

Get to the Game Early Folks! University of MN-Morris P.E. Center Will Be Standing-Room Only for Hancock/Ada-Borup Section Championship Game

Fans should arrive EARLY, as in 5:00 or 5:30, in order to get a good seat for the game. I found out that University officials are worried that the 3,000-plus seating at the UM-Morris fieldhouse will not be enough for the fans who will be coming to this Goliath-sized girls basketball game.

I will also add that I finally have been finding some good "scouting" information on Ada-Borup and have forwarded all of it to Coach Holleman. I thought about adding some of it to this but then realized I don't want it to get to the Owls' girls basketball players un-filtered by their coaches. I'll let the coaches do the coaching and I'll keep doing the reporting & blogging!

See you at the game, it will be the biggest game I have ever seen in my 20 years of watching basketball. This game is HUGE!

Section 6A-South Championship Game Photos

Most of these photos are downsized quite a bit, so downloading them to print out won't work too well. Once the season is over (a couple weeks from now!) I'll get all my pictures on CD's for players, family, and friends to get their hands on. See you all on Friday night at UMM!

Owls Girls Basketball Makes Second Straight Section Final, 69-44 Sub-Section Championship Win Over Ashby Arrows at the University of Minnesota-Morris

The Owls will face Ada-Borup (27-1), a 59-35 winner over Lake Park-Audubon, next Friday, March 7, at 7:00 at UM-Morris.

Ada-Borup defeated LP-A in the Sub-Section 6A-North championship tonight, held at Concordia-Moorhead. The highly-ranked Cougars began the playoffs with an 85-48 win over Norman County East (6-20 finish). In the sub-section semi's, the Cougars defeated New York Mills (18-8 finish) 83-49. New York Mills was the 5th seed, and advanced to the semi's with a 47-46 win over Park Christian, the 5th seed.

In the championship, the Cougars defeated the 3rd seed, Lake Park-Audubon, who entered the title game after a semi-final win over the 2-seed, Norman County West, 65-56.

In tonight's convincing win for the Owls (22-4) over the Ashby Arrows, they led 36-28 at halftime. The first half was a battle the whole way.

The tone for the second half was set in the first 66 seconds out of the locker room, with Jenny Noordmans, Bree Holleman, and Chelsea Voorhees all hitting buckets to put their team ahead 42-28 before the Arrows knew what hit them.

With 2:59 on the clock, Arrows' coach John Kent waved the white flag in a classy move, with the Owls sitting on a 22-point lead at that point.
