Owls Girls Basketball Overcomes 25-11 Deficit to Win 74-61 over Brandon-Evansville For Sub-Section Championship Berth this weekend on Saturday night

The Hancock Owls girls basketball team (21-4) knocked down Brandon-Evansville tonight in the Sub-Section 6A-South semi-finals to advance to Saturday's championship game, which will be held at the friendly confines of the University of Minnesota-Morris P.E. Center at 7:00pm.

The Owls trailed 25-11 early in the game to the 19-6 Chargers. They fought back to make it a 28-21 game going into the locker room.

After halftime, the Owls lit up the net for an amazing 53 second-half points to win going away by double digits.

They will take on the Ashby Arrows, who picked up one of the biggest upsets this area has ever seen by defeating the previously undefeated Battle Lake Battlers 50-47. The Arrows moved to 17-6 on the season, while the Battlers ended 24-1. What a heartbreaking loss for a fine Battle Lake team. Going 1-1 in the playoffs is a terribly sour way to end a season for any state-ranked team.

Saturday night will be a fun game. See you there.

Owls Girls Basketball Wins Third Straight Playoff Opener 67-34 Against Pheasant Conference Rival Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley

The Owls advance to the Sub-Section 6A-South semi-finals to face third-seeded Brandon-Evansville, who was a 70-67 winner against Parkers Prairie tonight in another quarterfinal matchup.

I heard that Parkers led late in the game against the Chargers tonight. If anything, Brandon-Evansville had some energy taken out of them with tonight's squeaker of a win over their fellow Little Eight Conference rival Panthers.

I'll post more information about the playoffs, as well as tonight's win against the Wolverines, on Wednesday night.

Owls Girls Basketball gets Roughed up at B-B-E To Finish Another Sparkling Regular Season 19-4 Overall -- Playoffs Begin Next Week at Home

The Hancock Owls girls basketball team (6-0 Pheasant, 19-4 overall) will begin the Section 6A playoffs at home next Tuesday night against the winner of the Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley vs. Wheaton-Herman/Norcross game the night before. Their section schedule will be brutal, as they are one of three state-ranked teams in Section 6A.

Tonight at B-B-E (17-8), the Owls faced the worst odds, as starting guard Lindsie Cunningham was out with injury and the host Jaguars played at a high level the entire game. After trailing 28-13, the Owls fought back with a vengeance, cutting the deficit to 7 points and then 6 points in the final minutes.

I'll try to get more updates up on the regular season, and next week the Section 6A tournament will be running fast and furious!
